Brides Online
Real brides share their experiences and tips at www.styleweddings.sg forum.
Before the big day Keep away from fried food and take less coffee to prevent yellow stains on teeth. Try to drink at least six to to eight glasses of water each day and eat healthier food like brown rice, vegetables, tofu, wholegrain cereals and bread. Also, exercise at least twice a week. It is a good idea, as well, to start going for manicures and pedicures before the wedding to keep your nails in good shape.
Photographer or Videographer I wanted to hire a videographer for my wedding but I realised it was not really necessary. Photos are better. They capture the moment beautifully. Save the money for a good photographer or get a friend or relative to be the videographer. If you do engage a videographer, arrange for a short discussion with him and the photographer in advance. I have friends telling me their videographer appeared in most of their wedding pictures or that the videographer was blocking the photographer most of the times. Recommendation: it's better to find photographer and videographer in same company or any of their partners whom they are comfortable working with.
Bridesmaids Actually, your bridesmaids do not necessarily have to be your close friends. You can ask your casual friends or colleagues too. Don't be surprised if they turn out better friends than you expected!
The Perfect Gown It is important that you like the designs in the shop, regardless of whether you want a made-to-measure or off-the-rack gown, as the existing pieces will give you a gauge of their workmanship. Make sure you are comfortable with the service staff, especially your first point of contact, as she will be handling your wedding upon confirmation. Also, do browse through their portfolios for a reference of quality of their photography and makeup services.
Keeping Toned It's important to continue your pre-wedding exercise regime after your wedding, so that your efforts are not wasted.
Outdoor Shoots Bring a bottle of water and a straw for outdoor shoots, as well as a pair of slippers, tissues and a set of makeup essentials in case there's need for you to touch up your own makeup. Stay cheerful and you will look great in the photographs.
Happy Marriage Wedding preparations can be extremely stressful for couples. Make the effort to work problems out with your wife. Sit her down and have a discussion than avoid the issue.
Makeup Mayhem "Bries who have the habit of blinking or squinting their eyes should avoid wearing eyelash extensions, as repeated facial movements will cause them to detach easily. And if the bride cries or applies too much eye cream around the eyelids, the adhesive on the extensions will wear off."
Careful Catering "Often, couples underestimate the amount of time required to finalise their wedding menus for a catered event. After confirming that external catering is allowed at their chosen venue, couples should plan the catering arrangements at least two months before the event. Sometimes couples choose dishes (spicy food or cheap menus) that may not be to the liking of their guests, parents and in-laws. That is why ample time should be set aside to allow for any changes.
Beauty Buzz Couples hould refrain from trying out new skincare products right before the wedding as they may cause outbreaks and allergic reactions. It is better to start on an aesthetic treatment programme two to three months before the actual wedding day and stick to just using medical-grade skincare conditions like eczema will require special care. Brides should be extra careful of beauty treatments like "instant freckle removal" offered by some salons as there have been cases of patients suffering deep puckered scarring after going through these dubious procedures."
Gown Guide "There are a few things to note when selecting the wedding gown. Don't go for a gown just because it's cheap or on offer. A bride should select one that she truly desires for her once-in-a-lifetime event. The dress should also complement the wedding theme and celebrations. More importantly, couples should find a reliable bridal studio that they are comfortable with."
Photography Package "An excellent photographer is one who possess attitude, craft, experience and character. Chemistry, rapport, attitude and pride in his or her work are also important. Capturing intimate, journalistic and candid photos seem to be the latest trend in photography today. Select a good photographer whose work appeals and "speaks" to you. He or she should have a keen eye on the big picture and little details to create a cohesive "story" of your wedding. Most importantly, have fun and be yourselves. Couples look their best when they are relaxed and are not aware of the camera. Everyone has a budget. But imagine having to look at your photos with your children and grandchildren 50 years down the road. Good photos are priceless, in a way."

Help Charmaine to fight against the monster in her body
Dear Readers,
Have you hear about a little girl's plight and fight for survival in Singapore last week which was all over the newspapers? I had attached the newspaper article for your information and also for more details, you can visit her website or blog at http://www.ourfeistyprincess.com/index.php or http://ourfeistyprincess.blogspot.com
Charmaine, age 4, was diagnosed with a rare case of cancer that raised her right rib cage. She is currently in the 4th stage and fighting hard. Sending her to US was the only way to more than double her chance of survival to 40-50% (currently 10% chance of survival), as compare to treatment in Singapore.
Like all mothers, Charmaine’s mother, Cynthia, wants to give her child the best chance of survival possible. However, the cost to do that will be USD350,000, which is half a million SGD! This has left her very helpless as it is beyond her means as a single parent with another young son of 5 years old.
Fortunately, Cynthia’s friends came forward to help raise whatever amount possible in the shortest time. Would YOU want to be little Charmaine's angel to help her fight with the monster?
(NO OBLIGATION) You can donate money directly to her bank account. More details can be found at this page: http://ourfeistyprincess.blogspot.com/2009/06/on-cash-donation-and-pay-pal.html
Let do our part to help her fight against the monster!

Outdoor Weddings
Exchanging vows under a starry night or sunny sky is very romantic. It's a private and personal event where you want it to be very memorable for the lifetime. But always be prepared for the unexpected "surprise".
Here are the lists to take note:
WEDDING DATE - Choose your wedding date carefully to avoid rainy or monsoon season. - Check if the weather will be wet or humid.
LOCATION - Check out the location and the surroundings. * Prone to bad weather? * Any major intersections nearby? * Any construction going around? * Any infestation of mosquitoes or insects? * Any alternative in case of bad weather?
HIDDEN COSTS - Be sure to check for hidden costs such as use-permit fees for public areas especially the parks.
TRANSPORTATION - Hire a valet service to assist with parking and transportation, especially if the area has limited parking slots nearby. - Hire a shuttle bus to help transport guests from distant parking areas.
VENDORS / CATERERS - Source for vendor who is experience with outdoor receptions. - Discuss with your vendors and caterers for any back-up or contingencies in case of bad weather. - Also find out the challenges or extra expenses that might incur.
ADVANCE BOOKING - Scout for several locations as some places can be booked way up in advance.
RESTRICTIONS - Find out if there are any noise restrictions in the area. Nothing’s worse than having the neighbors to call the police to break up your reception. - Use of the swimming pool, check out the time restrictions.
THEME - Consider the time of day you’re holding your reception. - Does the venue reflect your overall theme? - Example: * Garden theme is suitable for the day time celebration. * Romantic theme is perfect for night celebration. * A beach party may be appropriate for the day time.
LIGHTING - With outdoor parties, you can choose various types of lighting to enhance the atmosphere. * Go for bright and soft with natural daylight in daytime. * For evening parties, string fairy lights between trees, hang Chinese lanterns on the branches or scatter candles around the area.
COSY SETTING - Make your wedding site as homey and beautiful as possible - Also ensure there are lots of chairs, linens, electric generators, cooling areas, toilets and even portable dance floors for your guests.
VENUE LAYOUT - Plan a central area for guests to gather during the cake-cutting, dancing and bouquet-tossing.
BUDGET LIMITATION - Calculate the cost of an outdoor site and the size of the venue. - Unlike a ballroom wedding, for an outdoor site, the cost incurs can be for the venue rental, decoration set-ups, florist, furniture, marquee, toilet arrangement, hire caterer, etc. - Set the food budget limits for the number of your invited guests.
DECORATION - There are endless ways to decorate an outdoor party. * Tie helium balloons to chairs or strew flowers all over the floor. * Line the candles or rose petals along the aisle. * For breezy area, play around with ribbons and windmills that will twirl prettily as the wind blows. * Make use of the existing surroundings — such as a sandy beach, the trees, the wind or a swimming pool — to create a unique celebration.
INVITATION - Always remember to state the alternative location in case of bad weather.
PERFECT OUTDOOR WEDDING VENUES IN SINGAPORE - ACTE d'AMOUR Restaurant - Amara Hotel - Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa - Carlton Hotel - Celestial Planners - Changi Village Hotel - Four Seasons Hotel - Garden Asia - Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel - Grand Park City Hall - Jurong Bird Park - Labrador Villa - Mandai Orchid Garden - Mount Faber - My Secret Garden - Night Safari - One Rochestor - Orchid Country Club - Parkroyal on Beach Road - Peony Jade - Sentosa - Sheraton Hotel - Singapore Flyer - Singapore Marriott Hotel - Singapore Zoo - Swissotel Merchant Court
