Brides Online

Real brides share their experiences and tips at www.styleweddings.sg forum.

Before the big day
Keep away from fried food and take less coffee to prevent yellow stains on teeth. Try to drink at least six to to eight glasses of water each day and eat healthier food like brown rice, vegetables, tofu, wholegrain cereals and bread. Also, exercise at least twice a week. It is a good idea, as well, to start going for manicures and pedicures before the wedding to keep your nails in good shape.

Photographer or Videographer
I wanted to hire a videographer for my wedding but I realised it was not really necessary. Photos are better. They capture the moment beautifully. Save the money for a good photographer or get a friend or relative to be the videographer. If you do engage a videographer, arrange for a short discussion with him and the photographer in advance. I have friends telling me their videographer appeared in most of their wedding pictures or that the videographer was blocking the photographer most of the times. Recommendation: it's better to find photographer and videographer in same company or any of their partners whom they are comfortable working with.

Bridesmaids
Actually, your bridesmaids do not necessarily have to be your close friends. You can ask your casual friends or colleagues too. Don't be surprised if they turn out better friends than you expected!

The Perfect Gown
It is important that you like the designs in the shop, regardless of whether you want a made-to-measure or off-the-rack gown, as the existing pieces will give you a gauge of their workmanship. Make sure you are comfortable with the service staff, especially your first point of contact, as she will be handling your wedding upon confirmation. Also, do browse through their portfolios for a reference of quality of their photography and makeup services.

Keeping Toned
It's important to continue your pre-wedding exercise regime after your wedding, so that your efforts are not wasted.

Outdoor Shoots
Bring a bottle of water and a straw for outdoor shoots, as well as a pair of slippers, tissues and a set of makeup essentials in case there's need for you to touch up your own makeup. Stay cheerful and you will look great in the photographs.

Happy Marriage
Wedding preparations can be extremely stressful for couples. Make the effort to work problems out with your wife. Sit her down and have a discussion than avoid the issue.

Makeup Mayhem
"Bries who have the habit of blinking or squinting their eyes should avoid wearing eyelash extensions, as repeated facial movements will cause them to detach easily. And if the bride cries or applies too much eye cream around the eyelids, the adhesive on the extensions will wear off."

Careful Catering
"Often, couples underestimate the amount of time required to finalise their wedding menus for a catered event. After confirming that external catering is allowed at their chosen venue, couples should plan the catering arrangements at least two months before the event. Sometimes couples choose dishes (spicy food or cheap menus) that may not be to the liking of their guests, parents and in-laws. That is why ample time should be set aside to allow for any changes.

Beauty Buzz
Couples hould refrain from trying out new skincare products right before the wedding as they may cause outbreaks and allergic reactions. It is better to start on an aesthetic treatment programme two to three months before the actual wedding day and stick to just using medical-grade skincare conditions like eczema will require special care. Brides should be extra careful of beauty treatments like "instant freckle removal" offered by some salons as there have been cases of patients suffering deep puckered scarring after going through these dubious procedures."

Gown Guide
"There are a few things to note when selecting the wedding gown. Don't go for a gown just because it's cheap or on offer. A bride should select one that she truly desires for her once-in-a-lifetime event. The dress should also complement the wedding theme and celebrations. More importantly, couples should find a reliable bridal studio that they are comfortable with."

Photography Package
"An excellent photographer is one who possess attitude, craft, experience and character. Chemistry, rapport, attitude and pride in his or her work are also important. Capturing intimate, journalistic and candid photos seem to be the latest trend in photography today. Select a good photographer whose work appeals and "speaks" to you. He or she should have a keen eye on the big picture and little details to create a cohesive "story" of your wedding. Most importantly, have fun and be yourselves. Couples look their best when they are relaxed and are not aware of the camera. Everyone has a budget. But imagine having to look at your photos with your children and grandchildren 50 years down the road. Good photos are priceless, in a way."
